The Menopause Society gives clinical hypnosis a "Level-I recommendation" for hot flashes. Here is why it works without hormones.

TL;DR: For women who cannot or choose not to use Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), clinical hypnosis is a top-tier, evidence-based alternative. Studies show it can reduce the frequency and severity of hot flashes by up to 74% by helping regulate the body's internal "thermostat."

Menopause symptoms, particularly vasomotor symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats, can be debilitating. While HRT is the standard treatment, it isn't suitable for everyone.

It is not widely known outside of clinical circles that The Menopause Society provides a "Level-I recommendation" for clinical hypnosis. This means the evidence is classified as "good and consistent."

How does it cool you down? Hot flashes are essentially a misfire of the body's thermostat, located in a part of the brain called the hypothalamus. Due to fluctuating estrogen levels, the hypothalamus mistakenly thinks the body is overheating and triggers a massive cooling response (sweating, flushing).

Clinical hypnosis works by teaching the brain to regulate this internal thermostat more effectively. Through deep relaxation and targeted cool imagery, we can widen the "neutral zone" so the body doesn't trigger a hot flash as easily.

Clinical trials have shown a reduction in hot flash frequency and severity by up to 74%. It also tends to improve sleep quality, which is often disrupted by night sweats.
